۵«اکنون نزد فرستندۀ خود می‌روم، و هیچ‌یک نمی‌پرسید، ”کجا می‌روی؟“۶امّا به‌سبب شنیدن سخنانم، دل شما آکنده از غم شده است.۷با اینحال، من به شما راست می‌گویم که رفتنم به‌سود شماست. زیرا اگر نروم، آن مدافع نزد شما نخواهد آمد؛ امّا اگر بروم او را نزد شما می‌فرستم.۸چون او آید، جهان را مجاب خواهد کرد که به‌لحاظ گناه و عدالت و داوری، تقصیرکار است.۹به‌لحاظ گناه، زیرا به من ایمان نمی‌آورند.۱۰به‌لحاظ عدالت، زیرا نزد پدر می‌روم و دیگر مرا نخواهید دید.۱۱و به‌لحاظ داوری، زیرا رئیس این جهان محکوم شده است.
16:5 But now I am going to him who sent me; and not one of you says to me, Where are you going?
16:6 But your hearts are full of sorrow because I have said these things.
16:7 But what I am saying is true: my going is for your good: for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.
16:8 And he, when he comes, will make the world conscious of sin, and of righteousness, and of being judged:
16:9 Of sin, because they have not faith in me;
16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to the Father and you will see me no more;
16:11 Of being judged, because the ruler of this world has been judged.
